Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving! Our world is full of challenges, ambiguity, sorrow and on top of everything else we are expected to live our lives at an increasingly hurried pace. This is one of the reasons why Thanksgiving is such a special day. Its origins are troubled (please see my blog post from 2024 “Saving Thanksgiving” to learn more) and that should be acknowledged. In tandem, we can also receive that there is so much good that can from taking time to express gratitude to our Creator, our friends, family, and to ourselves. My hope for today is to spend time being extra kind and thankful to my family and friends who chose to spend time with me today. I also took my time and gave my best effort to prepare a meal for my family today that turned out fantastic. It was my first year cooking the turkey and it turned out juicy and flavorful.

One last thing I plan to do today is to discuss with my guests the names of the Indigenous people who originally inhabited the land where I now live. Currently, I live on land that was occupied by the Muscogee. It’s important to acknowledge the history and origins of how we came to be here. If you are interested in learning more about the history of your home, you can use this map to learn more. Happy Returns of the Day.
